Illegal homeschoolers?

It is with great interest and concern that I am following the California story about the judge ruling home school as illegal. A raving liberal, no doubt who feels that children are "property of the state", not a gift from God. This seems to me to have the undertones of the Nazi movement in Germany, in which children were trained in state run schools and indoctrinated into the third Reich.

Today I read an article in which the court was asked to reconsider it's ruling...basically that since parents do not hold teaching credentials, they are not qualified to teach. The superintendent of schools said "The California Department of Education policy will not change in any way as a result of this ruling. Parents still have the right to home school in this state," ... Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who called it “outrageous” and one that “must be overturned at all costs.” Because of the history of Liberal ruling based on the fed courts, this ruling, if it remains on the books will affect all home schoolers. Living in Montana, I know that our courts often follow California's laws so this could affect us relatively quickly.

I wonder about the fact that some of us home school for religious reasons. I believe that God calls parents to teach their children and based on Paul's letter to Timothy, Grandparents to can hold a vital role in homeschooling. I believe that my first duty to these children is to teach them of God, then the academics...because this is truly a religious belief, they are interfering in my religious conviction should it be deemed "illegal". But then, I am Christian, and our society seems to deem that as irrelevant versus if I were muslim. God will hold me accountable for the instruction given to these children as long as they are under my care.

The irony to this, the "public" school system was intially started by settlers when it came to light that parents were not giving their children religious instruction at home. The reading, writing and arithmetic were secondary to biblical instruction. How twisted our country has become and how far removed from the biblical values it was founded on. :(
