About a year ago, I borrowed a video called signing times from the library. The kids really loved it and we all were able to pick up a few signs quite quickly. I got the whole set and altho we have a lot of the words memorized, the syntax of speaking sign really throws us all.
I saw today how it is working with my youngest. He wanted a drink and came up and signed that he wanted a drink of milk. I signed back that he could have water. He then signed for orange juice, again I signed water. He signed chocolate milk....then he started to have fun asking for orange milk or chocolate juice...then started throwing in some other signes. IE watermelon juice. I guess he is pulling more from this than I thought.
I have asked a couple people in our community about lessons for us (I would be included) but no-one has taken us up on this yet. The deaf and blind school in our community offers classes, but from what I understand, they are not very child friendly ....very fast paced and intensive. So for now I will keep looking for ways to teach and learn sign with the kids at the same time.
