Whoo hoo!!!

I got on the scales today and have lost 7 pounds!!!! many more to go but I am going in the right direction!!!!

With the Wii fit, I love doing that no so much for the exercise it offers as much as for the kids being my cheerleader when I break a new record, especially one of theirs and they feel compelled to go beat it again.

Wednesday Checkin 1/31

I have still been rotating between Wii and Pilates daily, but I have not been diligent with journaling my journey. I have not weighed myself again, but already my pants are looser, what a joy.

This past week I have not only been purging the weight, but the house as well. Projects that I have procrastinated on are getting done. Yesterday, for example, the boys and I went through their room and started tossing old/broken toys. Some of which the boys want to try to sell to earn an extra buck or two. I still have some details to take care of in their room, but that must wait until I can get to town.We have found that 3 and 5 gallon buckets are ideal for their toys, and I need to get a couple more. They also need new curtains and some shelves on the wall. (they are lego buffs and we need a place for some of their finished projects.)

Today I concentrate on the princess room (she is anticipating moving to a larger room, so the more we can get rid of the less we have to move.) She has already started purging some of her toys that are to young, she also is interested in selling some of hers. I am not sure if we will save it for a garage sale, or if we will just list on craigslist.

Meals have changed. The kids are still loving home cooked breakfasts. Yesterday, princess made banana bread that they can have with juice. Last nights dinner is a good example of our change, back to basics really. Baked Chicken breast with steamed broccoli and cauliflower and a slice of homemade bread. Princess also baked brownies for dessert, which I passed on (and that is saying something with my love for chocolate!)

I look forward to getting our tax refund in, for on the agenda is a 1/2 beef from a local rancher as well as lamb. I wont buy storebought beef as it is vile, no flavor and to much fat! I am also hoping to locate a local place that sell chicken in bulk so we can fill our freezer. I also look forward to trying my hand at canning some of it. (I already have canned beef and venison, so I don't think it will be much different)

My darling wanted to know why I can some of it. We purchased 1/4 a cow from a local rancher (wont be getting from them again) the meat was too tough. By canning, it tenderizes it beautifully. It also makes for homemade convenience foods. I can dump it in a pot, and veggies and homemade broth and we have stew for dinner. It is quick because the meat is already cooked. This makes sense since we are inclinded to have power outages in bad weather. I told him that when we get the 1/2, I want the bones as well to make home canned broth. If we can get chickens I will do the same thing there. (my goal is to freeze 1/2 and can 1/2)

All in all, a good week!

Wednesday Checkin

Today my legs ache with every step, my gut hurts with each and every movement. It is a good thing, like growing pains. I can see little bits of the excess weight dropping, and already my energy level is increasing. As a result of this, I now beginning to sleep better.

The journey of getting into shape that I have begun again (for I use to be in great health and form) and with this journey will come aches, pains and setbacks. Each time my muscles hurt from being challenged to do things they have not done in a long time, is progress.

God has reminded me this morning that this is much like my walk with HIM. He will show me where I have become spiritually out of shape, and it causes me pain. Pain that I need to work on this part of my life to come into line with his will, and moreso pain that a specific area has separated me from HIM, for God and sin cannot reside together.

Thank you, Lord for this lesson, I pray each time my legs hurt it will remind me to walk in your way, each time my gut hurt, may it remind me to breathe your word, each time my arms ache, may it remind me to keep my hands in your will. I hope I ache a lot and my body changes physcially and my heart grows in HIM.

The gathering

Before my grandchildren moved in, I use to exercize daily for at least 1 hour. I was concerned because my weights were heavy and I did not want them getting hurt, so they have sat in the garage collecting dust.

Usually on Sundays we go out to eat after church. In the summer I can pack healthy foods and we can picnic in a park or combine it with other activities, but winters usually find us a burgerking (which I despise but the kids look forward to) My dearest today took us to a restaurant today where I had just a scrambled egg then fruit for brunch. I am amazed at the energy level and motivation this has given me compared to the high fat coma I am usually in after lunch of fat n calories.

I went into the garage and pulled out my dumbells, and step box, and gathered together my "tools" as I really choose to kick this into high gear. I watched some of the more advanced exersizes that I use to do and now know I am going to hurt next week. I look forward to my calves feeling tight as they realize the stress they have been put under, or my abs dreading anything like a cough as they are being challenged, torn and healing. Oh how I have missed these feelings.

For now...my weapons of choice are:

I am looking forward to stepping up my routine to reclaim the energy and health that will all come with this.

Thank you to my friend Lynne who has offered to be a motivator and helper my desire and commitment to this journey. She is a blessing that is truly sent by God!

Weightloss Journey

For a while, I have needed to lose weight. The weight gain I have experienced was purely an emotional thing after my father died. I quickly learned I could not eat and cry at the same time, so I took up eating as a new hobby. Preferably anything chocolate and high calorie.

Along with that, I found myself spending far to long in front of this little box under the guise of "researching" or seeking curriculum for the kids(which I really did not need). With this in the past 3 years since the death of my father, I have consistenly put on weight.

Last year my darling bought me a WII fit as motivation, but I don't think I was ready yet, as a result it sat for a long time, unused, and I continued to gain weight. I had to go to the doctor in December...my mothers cat scratched me and within hours I could see infection setting in. When they weighed me I almost cried, this was after my hubby and I went to a Christmas party, that evening I looked at all the clothes in my closet and realized that I have notthing that fit me any more. I have not been this heavy since I was pregnant with my dau and it is making me miserable. (My real aha moment)

As I enter this, God has granted me a change of heart. I have done 45 minutes on the game today...burning calories, working on balance and rebuilding my strenght. I have become more attentive to what I am eating, portions as well as content. I have lost already 3 pounds since the beginning of the year (YEAH).

I am not trying to advocate that all should have this system, to the contrary, I would rather have a fitness room to lift free weights and do pilates. If we lived closer to town I would seek a gym membership, but I cannot see driving 20 minutes just to get to the gym, and the return journey. (40 minutes of gas/travel for 60 minutes of exersize...) But I must work with what I have room. I have also incorporated time on the WII for the kids as part of their school routine when they are unable to go outside do to cold or weather, so that they can have some fun while getting some exersize. I find them very encouraging.

Because of the variety, I don't find it difficult to work out on the Wii. Last week I bought another fitness game...Wii Zumba (my granddau loves this more than I) but it gives me a good aerobic workout. I also picked up a 30 pound weight bar and hope to find some time to do some free weights. I will shoot to do a weight lifting routine (about another 30 mins) after the kids are in bed tonight.

My goal is to lose about 10 pounds a month over the next 3 months. Really tho' for me it is not about the weight as much as being healthy and fit.
