Today was one of those days that I just want to hold onto. Nothing spectacular, extraordinary or unusual. Just a day.
The kids had their martial arts class this afternoon and while they were there I ran to a toy store downtown to pick a birthday gift for my oldest...he will be 12 on Monday. ( I got him a lego game and a "boba fett" alarm clock...and a fake mustache a beard as he told his mom he wanted wiskers for his birthday.)
We sat down to dinner and I started a conversation on gratitude. Each of us mentioned things we were grateful for and the "usual" stuff was mentioned...family, a home, meals etc. But I relayed to them the story of Corrie Ten Boom and how she became grateful for fleas of all things.
So I challenged each of them: I had the oldest figure out reasons to be grateful for dinner dishes...a chore he loathes...he came up with evidence that we had food to eat, being a blessing to me as he is doing a job that for all his life had been mine, the fact that we even have dishes...
The princess goes through times when she hates brushing her hair which is now down past her waist. She came up with the fact at in the cold weather it offers warmth, it is evident that she is healthy (she watched our friend lose all her hair due to chemo), it is a gift God has given her.
The youngest struggles with the fact that he is the youngest. He does not get to stay up quite as late as his siblings, the oldest "always" gets to do things first....the usual struggles of being the youngest. So I challenged him to come up with ways he is grateful to be the youngest. He came up with when the other two are adults he will be here by himself with us and that he learns from them.
After dinner, hubby played cribbage with the youngest, I don't know who won the game, but this little 8 year old is quite good at playing. Afterwards, the little man had to go to bed so my beloved broke open the chess set to play with the oldest.
They sat at the table deep in thought and quiet conversation as they played.
Today I taught my princess how to spool knit, as the "menfolk" were playing chess she sat quietly working on her project, occassionally asking me a question to make sure she was doing it right.
I sat in my chair trying to read a book, my old dog at my feet chewing on a bone as content as could be and I became distracted by this scene. Wanting to hold it in my heart and mind forever.

895. the encouragement of the littles and my husband as I take over the livingroom with my dvd, workout mat and weights (or whatever tool I am using that day)
896. the "quick fix" meals my daughter also gave me...soup mixes in a jar...I just add meat and water and we have dinner in no time. (I am going to have to get the recipes for these tooo!!) Fast food minus the chemicals...

Another Week
As we draw to the close to the week, I look back over the past few weeks with our membership as part of a co-op, our schoolwork schedule, and life in general. I can sit back content with the direction God has taken us.
I have found for me, that the co-op is giving me long term direction that I had been looking for. Whether the coop succeeds or fails (for this is the first year, along with the occassional bumps in the road that will occur as this becomes established) or if for whatever reason it no longer fits our family, the "schedule" will be maintained.
The first couple of weeks the kids thought they were "overwhelmed" with work, but as we settled into a routine of expectations, they see that they are not being asked to do more than they are capable of. At 11:30 in the morning, both boys have completed all of their assignments, the older one even giving a "happy dance" as he feels the sense of accomplishment. Princess has been slammed with 3 tests today so is taking longer to finish her work.
I have never read our current literature assignment "A Conneticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court" and I don't know who is enjoying it more, me or the kids...What a fun story and we are only up to chapter 9!
They were required to do a biography on Mark Twain this week and the kids enjoyed learning about him...again I did to. We learned that Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) was a confederate (for 2 weeks he had his own militia), he was a miner in Nevada, he was a pilot on a Mississippi river boat among other bits of info.
We are also reading "Gullifurs Travels" this is a book from the "Wishbone" series. Unfortunatley these books are now out of print, so I am grateful when I run across them in thrift shops.
The oldest is loving his US History, often these lessons take longest because he will want more info so we search the internet or watch a movie or look through books to answer his questions. The growth he is showing this year is amazing and I am in awe of the growth.
My princess...she struggles so with her maths. I have learned that she is like her mom, she cannot just be given bits and pieces in lessons to reach one final goal, we have to jump ahead so she can see where she is going with new information. My daughter was described as a "batch" learner. I have yet to find a curriculum that teaches in this manner, so as she starts each new unit we have to jump ahead to see where she is going.
Co-op still continues to be the highlight of their week...wonder what the kids from PS would say when these three all declare how much they love "school". :)
This week I am giving the kitchen a real deep clean, and catching up on never ending laundry. My beloved bought me a new dryer as the old one was not doing the job and I am wonderfully thrilled to not have to run 2 cycles to get clothes dry. I did not know he was even looking so I was thrilled when he brought it home last nite...keep in mind we buy these used so I was even more thrilled with the $50 price!!!
801. girls smiles,
802. sense of adventure the boys share with me
803. excitement as "they" figure out their work is all done before lunch
804. the sounds of dissappointment as they realize our reading is done for the day and they want to go on
805. struggles with lessons in the past, now things done with ease.
806. a husband who watches out for me
807. mom who finds treasures for me...latest is a pressure cooker for dinner to cut time for cooking
808. my daughter, who despite her distance from the family seems to be coming back bit by bit.
809. plans for thanksgiving with family starting to be made
810. excitement of kids headed out to the garden to pull up plants as we learn about roots.
811. An 11 year old learning of how private property was established with the pilgrims and relating it to the current threats he hears in the news today.
812. Living a lifestyle that allows me to be the wife God intends of me.
813. knowing that HE is in control today
814. knowing He is already there tomorrow
815. provisions He has made, without me knowing I needed them at the time.
816. Did I mention my dryer???
817. day to day life, that often seems boring and mundane yet is the most fulfilling
818. hunting season
819. One deer hanging...7 to go
820. canning jars to fill
821. the ones that are full
822. a friend who gave us some homemade pickles (tried making them once...failed...will have to try again)
823. my wood floor
824. GRAFT co-op
825. Each adult who spends time to share with the kids during our co-op classes
826. Each child that I have the opportunity to impact.
827. Having the Kindergarten class...with Brooke, Quinn...and 3 Seths....tell me that isnt confusing sometimes.
828. today. I am overwhelmed with HIS love for me today.

Day's to never forget
On Friday the 23rd, I celebrated another year on this earth. I spent the day with my sister and my mother, which we had not done for far to long. My mom wanted to just go out of town and used thrift shops as a reason/excuse to go.
We headed to Helena, chatting about nothing in particular. I love listening to her point of view on life today, as she has seen more than me, and has a real comprehension and understanding of all the turmoil in the world today, and in the past couple of years she really has emphasised more than once that she is frightened, not so much for herself as her grandkids and great-grands and what they shall encounter.
I listen as she speaks of her life, her marriage, her beloved and how much she aches to hear his voice again.
As we drove, we sit for some moments in awe of the beauty of the mountains, each reflecting on this land that God created.
From Helena, we drove to Missoula. Stopping for lunch, then off to some more thrift shops. My mom delights like a child with a new toy at the GPS system she bought second hand. We hit another few thrift stores, glad we dont live there, but pleased to be there for the day.
After a few hours there we head home. My sister made out "like a bandit" finding things she needed for her home. My mom picked up a few things, and me...my passion, books. I found some more of the wishbone books I did not have for the kids. I found a writing curriculum for them, but what thrilled me was two brass oil lamps. (I love having them around for light when the power goes out)
We drove home, stopping in Lincoln along the way. We talked more, enjoyed the sunset, laughed as the GPS tried to take us back to Helena to get onto I15 to get home, on a dirt road we never new was there. As we drove, for a while there was silence, my mom started singing a song I recall her singing to my dad...I listened as I still hear her love for him in her voice.
A day to remember (next time I will try to remember to take my camera)
751. Mom
752. My sister
753. A day to just be with them
754. Canning, the ability to teach myself
755. The pop of the canning jars as they seal
756. The sun set in the mirrors as we drive east, stopping for a moment to breath it in.
767. My beloved, who is out hunting today praying to fill the freezer (and more cans!)
768. lessons from a mother that will never be forgotten.
769. my heart full with my family's love
770. life

A journey continued...
656.walking through a store and an 11 year old who has no qualms with holding my hand.
657. walking behind a 7 year old as he pushes the cart, playfully kicking his butt making him smile.

668. A dear friend of mine, who has cancer. She has been battling on and off for 7 long years. She recently has told her beloved that she is considering stopping the treatments. They are so hard on her and no longer seem to be effective....I am truly grateful for my health and the health of my beloved! I also am grateful for each day God has given her. 7 years ago she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer and the doctors said she would only live a few months...

546. My beloved who digs me out when I stick the van in a bank of snow.

God's multiple blessing.....
Today, as I write this, my 3 grandchildren have completed their homeschool assignments, and because of the weather they cannot go outside to play. The sky is overcast and rain is falling, it has been all day. I think of when my dearest and I got married, we both were in our mid 30's and decided that we did not want children of our own, we were to old to start a new family...we forgot to let God in on this decision.
When my daughter was in highschool she got pregnant, then got pregnant again 2 years later, pregnant again just a few months later. She has opted to walk out on them, as have their fathers, so now we have 3. I would not change it. They give me so much, I have learned so much from them and because of them. They help me stay closer to God. They keep me honest and on track.
My dearest...praise God for him, has accepted the situation, he is provider, encourager, supporter and teacher...
How could I ever need more?
377. His having to work at 4, I got to spend the day with him, altho' I will miss him at dinner time.
378. Pastor's sermon on 1 John, this will help me through the week.
379. Planning a trip with the kids and my dearest, they are all so excited to go.
380. Leftover turkey for dinner
381. The "ewww" of the oldest boy when Papa hugs and kisses me goodbye.
382. Praying for his future wife, the wife of the youngest and the husband of the girl, that God will grow them to follow HIM faithfully.
383. For the workman putting blacktop on the highway that leads to the dirt road to my house
384. For the dirt road that is rutted and muddy that causes me to have to slow down as I drive to notice what God has placed for me to see.
385. Cats...the kids squealing as they see cats waiting for gophers to come out of hiding.
386. three little ones who notice what my tired eyes often miss
387. The adults at church who put on a little "game" hour for the kids after church.
388. For continuing to gut the "old" of the house to replace with new.
389. cloud covered day, dropping rain on grass that needs mowing.
390. Trees in leaf!
391. Him taking time to work out the knot I have developed in my shoulder.
392. Chance to help my mom with simple things that mean a lot to her.
393. Washer and dryer...I don't have to take the laundry to a creek, and I don't have to worry about doing laundry in the rain.
394. Meeting an old friend in a 2nd hand store and visiting for about an hour...
395. The pantry my dearest built for me.
396. The blessing of being able to fill that pantry.
397. His new bow...that he practices with that he can keep us fed.
398. The oldest boy wanting to go hunting, understanding not just the excitement of the hunt, but the provision it brings.
399. The sweet Belle, who would rather stay home with me than hunt.
400. My family, my Dearest and I had not planned on having kids, God had other plans and provided in a way we never dreamed!

My beloved and me
When I first saw him, he walked into where I worked. He looked so handsome in his suit and tie, and he made me laugh. I think it was love at first sight for me.
For a couple of years we worked in the same company but did not have much interaction, at the time I was working in Human Resources, and we just did not cross paths much. Even then, my heart was "soft" for him.
We went through a change in our company, and I was given a choice of accepting a position "on the phones" or being laid off, I chose employement. So He and I started interacting more and more and became friends. I worked for a mortgage company, answering calls from mortgage holders who had questions on their mortgage accounts, including some collections.
About a week or two before Christmas he asked what I wanted for a gift, I told him a dinner out with him...on December 18 we had our first date.
We attended church together, we went for drives to the mountains, we would go explore antique shops, we had picnics and we use to love dancing. We enjoyed watching movies together and playing games...time went on we grew closer and closer...yet he never told me he loved me.
In the summer of 96, he told me he was taking the day off to help his brother with his car. I had spent the morning off the phones (which was a treat) and had been working downstairs in records pulling a ton of files to send out. I thought I would be doing this all day, but after lunch my supervisor told me she needed me on the phones...which made no sense as we were waiting for calls. So as I waited, I was dusting and cleaning my desk, and I recieved a call from a client who was disputing a massive amount of late charges she had accumulated. I knew this call, as I had had so many of them before, that I was not even looking at my computer. My supervisor signaled me to look at my computer and on mine and everyone elses in the building was a message
Jodie, I love you...will you marry me...
I put my caller on hold, when my beloved walked around the corner carrying roses, 2 yellow surrounded by a dozen red (friendship surrounded by love)...needless to say I got teary eyed. He got down on one knee and proposed, this was the first time he told me he loved me and when I responded yes, my supervisor sent messages to everyone "she said yes". He stayed a little longer and had to leave so I could finish out my day (right)...The ring he gave me...he had asked my father for permission to marry me a few days before, and my mother asked about a ring, he said he had not gotten it yet, she gave him my grandmother's ruby ring for an engagement ring...
Papers started flooding my desk as each person on the floor had told their caller what was going on, and I got a note about each caller and where they were from...We got well wishes from around the world...my caller had all of her late charges waived. (I still have each one)
Less than a year later, I walked down the aisle to become "MRS" (I still love that sound). My father was unable to walk, so my brother walked me down the aisle. My father gave me away in a voice tight with emotion, my mother was beautiful and full of joy.
The wedding was simple, we played Ode to a man desiring for the entrance...and "Shine Jesus Shine" on the way out. For our first dance, my beloved picked "What God has joined together"...but the tear jerker came when it was time for the "father daughter dance"...my father was in a wheelchair and his hands were deformed because of a battle with arthritis, so I played "Daddy's Hands"...The result was unexpected, everyone who knew us was crying, even my father, my favorite line "I will always remember the love of Daddy's hand".
My daughter was then 15, I told her she could invite some of her friends, they played the macarena, hokey pokey and the chicken dance...to funny.
Our wedding cake was a gift from a co-worker and was more beautiful that I could have ever imagined, our food...the company put together a "pot luck"...I set up a hersheys kiss pinata for the kids there. The day went by so quickly...
That was 13 years ago today...
347. The day I met Him, for he was an answer to prayer
348. Our first date, dinner and a movie
349. The proposal of a lifetime
350. That when he went to Iraq, God watched over him and returned him to me.
351. His love
352. His support in me homeschooling our grandchildren
353. Chicken and dumplings (one of his favorites)
354. His putting up with my attempts at cooking when we were first married.
355. His loving my cooking now
356. Our home
357. Our dreams for tomorrow
358. His love for God
359. His smile and laughter
360. His desire for me to be happy
361. My desire for him to be happy
362. Him still loving me after I have struggled through depressions.
363. His love for hunting, as that provides
364. His health.
365. His ex-girlfriends family, who were instrumental in him coming to God.
366. That my love for him grows each day, even when I cannot think I could love him more.
367. For all the little cards, drawings and notes he wrote while we were dating, and I still have
368. For the roses he would make at his desk and put on mine.
369. For him not being angry when I called to tell him I quit my job
370. Each day that we have been together, and God watching us when we are not
371. That I still look for him to come home
372. His support and comfort when my father was dying.
373. His still being jealous of our time together
374. His snoring at night
375. His pile of laundry by his bed each morning
376. Not remember what life was like without him .... and not wanting to...
..........
This year for our anniversary gift to eachother, we are taking Memorial Day weekend, heading off to a cabin by a lake for fishing, hiking and just enjoying life with eachother.
Father God, sometimes it is easy to become so "busy" with life that we forget to be grateful for those You have placed in our lives, I pray LORD GOD that you will keep our hearts loving eachother when we are not so lovable, that you will keep us faithful to eachother in body and in mind, that YOU keep a hedge of protection around us that all that is going onto in this world will not come into our home. Thank you Father for my husband and my family.

263. Little one startling me (on purpose) as I walk out of the bathroom.

267. Frogs singing to the sunset.
268. My neighbors peacock again venturing into my yard (maybe he will leave a feather)
269. Little ones who pick good books at a thrift store.
270. Childrens artwork to hang on my wall next as if it were a masterpiece.
271. Lunch with my oldest daughter.
273. A little girl who decides we both need to wear our jean skirts tomorrow to work in the yard.
274. my vacuum cleaner. for with spring comes mud

Grateful to my Lord for for each gift I am given...each breath, each step. Providing for my every need...and more, even when I least deserve it. Thank you MY FATHER for loving me.

Gratitude
Today, I am planning out gardens for the up coming year and years as we are able to expand them...I am grateful to God for this gift of work, that Satan would have us believe is a curse. I had a garden a few years ago and the time of working in His soil was time in which I was able to reflect on Him and His word...I look forward to that again.
