Saying goodbye

It was 10 years ago, we had just lost a dog due to cancer and I went to the pound, I don't know why, I just did. My heart was wounded from the death of a friend (Her name was Taz, the funniest looking dog I had ever owned)

As I looked throught he cages, one dog in particular grabbed at my heart..."Sam". A large, 5 year old shepherd/collie mix, I immediately fell for him. When he barked he sounded like a wookie off of Star Wars.

Against my better judgement, I brought him home. I introduced him to my other dog, Sienna, they hit it off right away. He warmed up to the baby (for my oldest grandchild was only a few months old).

The old man brought us many years of joy and laughs, and today we had to say goodbye to him. He developed a progressive spinal disease, and yesterday it had come to the worst, he could not get up. There was nothing more that could be done for him.

Goodbye old friend,
I shall miss you.
