A few days in the mountains

My mom has a place up in the mountains, unfortunatly it has been sorely neglected since my fathers death. We went up on Saturday with to stay a few days to try to pull some of it back in order. We needed to seal a couple of leaks in the roof, there were some plumbing problems started and it really just needed a good clean up.

When we got there, we have to turn on a water pump, which we did and then panic set in as the toilet filled the bathroom floor because of a leaking pipe. Our adventure started with no water (the water is not drinkable, so we did have plenty of drinking water). My mom had stocked up well on disposable plates, silverware etc, and I had precooked all our meals so really it was more of an inconvience as we had to haul water for cleaning etc.

The next day, my dearest showed up (he is trying his hand at archery hunting this year so did not come up with us the first day). He started right in on getting us running water. He actually had to make a trip into town (about 1 hour each way) to get the water running, then he double checked and we were good to go.

While my husband worked on sealing the roof, and it being Sunday, I had a mini retreat...have you ever really read the book of Jude? I had not, I sat with pen and paper to write notes, and really delved into the word. It took me about 3 hours to read, meditate, and just listen to HIS guidance. As I did this, sitting at the kitchen table, I could look out and watch the birds and squirrels playing in the trees. What an incredible day.

While I did this Dearest had brought up a pup tent and the kids got some firewood for a mock fire and they played "lewis and clark".

Monday after doing the roof, one of the neighbors invited us over to just sit by her fire, I brought the fixing's for Smores and we enjoyed eachothers company sitting under the stars. Dearest had to head home to check on job prospects (the infamous "they" are working on getting him a job)

Since He was gone on Tuesday, I caught up on our laundry and after lunch we headed to a local cemetary. We had been discussing the flu of 1916 prior to this so I challeged the kids to find gravesites with 1916 on them. Princess was heartbroken to find twins that died that year as well as babies just days old. The eldest was more interested in finding those who had served in our military, and little man more entralled with trying to find the oldest gravesite he could.

After that I took them to a couple of sites near the creek where they enjoyed playing in the cool water since we were having unusally high temperatures.

We left Wednesday, the kids want to move up there. But a small two bedroom place just wont hack it for the 5 of us.

Seeing how big of a splash he can make.

Contemplation of God's wonders

Papa scared the eldest....I had already warned the kids that there are 2 bears that have been on a search for food in the area, so they had to be aware of that.

The outhouse at my mom's place...it does need a new roof. I love indoor plumbing!
