Almost Christmas

It's been quite a while since I have updated this. I had every intention of keeping it current but somehow it not only slipped to the back burner, but right off the stove! I have been in a bit of a funk and not really inclined to do much of anything, having a hard time keeping up with the basics.

I have been adapting our schooling. What we had going was not working
The eldest was not thrilled with math. I was able to pick up a saxon text book and this is going much better, no more struggle for math. We are currently setting up for multiplication tables, which he is finding exciting.

I picked up a science curriculum called Considering God's Creation. I had become very dissatified with what we were doing before. This book not only is adaptable for all three kids, but instead of lapbooking this one lends itself to notebooking, which I think will go a little better than lapbooking with some subjects. It is a touch of variety rather than doing lapbooks all the time. I hope to do an apologia science next year and this seems to blend right into that.

For history we did a study on Colonial time frame, the discovery and settling of America. I incorporated a lot of Thanksgiving information into this lapbook. Thru' Schoolexpress, they offered a four part US history study and Nathan and I are currently doing that, along with their study of continents...right now Africa.

We are working on the old testament lapbook from Homeschool in the Woods, which we are all enjoying, not rushing this one, one component a week as we review the associated bible references.

We are now putting together a lapbook on the 12 days of Christmas. I am also having them include information and on reindeer, the "real" santa, some dot to dot and other activities. Not sure as to timing yet, but I just found a simple Nativity lapbook that I would like to include as well....we are cutting it a bit short tho'

The youngest is over 1/2 way done with his learning to read book and doing very well, he is so excited to learn to read. His older sister makes me laugh when she still occassional has an epiphany that she is reading. I love those moments.

The youngest is struggling with numbers over 20, frequently reversing them, so we have slowed down on our math book until his little light bulb comes on here. It is not due to his lack of effort tho as he hates when he has to put the lessons away for a day.

We have not put the tree up yet. I had to get it out of the garage, tomorrow is our target day. (about time) DH has been out of town since before Thanksgiving, and by the Grace of God, we have been able to get him home for the holidays. He comes home this Saturday!!!

Christmas is really playing on me this year as I sit and listen to the "I wants"...and the materialism associated with this day. God is working on me but I am not sure yet where He is leading me. Only His perfect timing will tell....

Today Lord, I pray for my cousin Lyle. He lost his wife of 52 years and this is his first Christmas season without her. He also lost his beloved son Rob a year ago, complications from being a quad.

Father, I thank you for my Uncle Earl. His progress is beyond what the doctors can explain...he should have died according to their prognosis, but he is now working on going home!!! Praise be to you Father.
