"All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work" 2 Timothy 3:16-17
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2nd Timothy 1:7
As a young adult, I was afraid to read the bible, not because it was ever used as a weapon, not because I was in a misguided church or relationship, but because I knew what was in it. conviction for my sin. I "knew" that being saved was for others, not me, because I was to "bad" and God could never forgive me, just others. (what I lie I bought into).
Through age, I have come to learn, the commandments are meant to show me how to guard my heart, they are to keep me healthy, emotionally, physically and to grow a wonderful gratitude toward our Heavenly Father. His commandments are not meant to hold us down, but lift us up, even tho' in our rational minds they don't always seem to make sense.
So often scriptures are taken out of context, they are quoted to show us our faults. to control and hold us down. In reality, because Jesus loved us to to the point of death, and we choose to be obedient to his word and the law because of our love for him. It is easy for our simple, rational minds to then link the obedience to our salvation, a lie from satan to trip is in our christian walk.
I do not think that non-christians and even some christian understand how freeing it is when we choose to obey the laws God have set for us, because then sin is no longer an option for us to have to contemplate or consider.
Thank you Father for your word, for your laws, for your guidance and for your love....
