With my dau (now 29) born on Christmas Eve, when she was a child I worked very hard not to blend Christmas with her birthday. Altho' we would have the tree up and gifts under it, her birthday was about celebrating my best Christmas present ever...her.
This year, we took a new direction. We made our traditional Christmas dinner (turkey and the fixin's) on Christmas Eve. We enjoyed the dinner together and topped it off with my dau birthday cake instead of pie (cake was baked and decorated by the 8 year old).
After cleaning up, we were then ready for Christmas morning.
I love the excitement of children on Christmas morning, their excitement and wonder, but not at 4:30 am. The princess was the first one up, we tried to convince her to go back to bed, but she was to excited to sleep so she slipped into her brothers' room at 5:15 and woke them. Okay...were up.
We opened gifts, put together toys, played games, talked, laughed and ate leftovers on disposable plates...much worth it. We all enjoyed the day together rather than women folk in the kitchen.
I asked my dau if it bothered her that we were combining her birthday and Christmas dinner. Her response was priceless...who else gets a true feast for their birthday dinner? *Now if God will open her heart to remind her of Jesus* This shall be a tradition we shall adhere to...with some tweaking of details.
My dau left after the kids were in bed so they got to spend 2 days with her, and they were truly happy to be with her, as was I.
Thank you Lord for time together as a family, may the kids remember this special time with their mother and us. Amen.
