This saturday is the beginning of rifle season here, my darling is drooling to head out and fill our freezers with yummy venison, antelope, and dare I pray for an Elk this year?
Many years ago, he and another man befriended eachother at church. For a long time I had prayed that my beloved would find and develop and Johnathon/David friendship. He now has that with this man.
Together our families have gone thru a church split, we have been there for eachother as we watched our children go, and now my beloved stood by his friends side as his wife slowly died from cancer.
This year will be odd. In the past when the boys have hunted we have stored the deer at their house, and spent weekends in the garage butchering and packaging the deer. We would laugh joke and work to store away our treasures. This year my friend will not be there. It shall be a very empty feeling for me.
Altho' he has plenty of tags, it is just him who eats meat in their family of two. Their son cannot eat meat. Literally it makes him sick almost immediately. He has a love for hunting and this year I pray that somehow this time will help him with his walk without his beloved.
We often talk of seasons in Montana...Pre hunting, hunting, and post hunting...as the boys spend the year looking forward to the first day of the season. Hopes high, anticipation felt with their every word, phone calls as they plan their days out, their strategy (which in all the years has never changed), weapon choice, (which never changes), number of rounds to pack. Going over each detail to try to ensure success.
Gosh men are funny!
